Join Collegium Institute for our 2024 Catholic Philosophical Traditions seminar, Thomism & Modern Science. In this four-part in-person seminar, we will explore not only the compatibility of religion and modern science but their integration, drawing from the philosophical thought of St. Thomas Aquinas. Together, we will discuss how this integration reveals the scientist as a mystic and allows us to see how God reveals himself in creation, while also touching upon special topics including but not limited to evolution, cosmic origins, and the Eucharist. Our core text will be the 2019 monograph Aristotle’s Revenge: The Metaphysical Foundations of Physical and Biological Sciences by Edward Feser, and those who register and receive admission by June 21 will receive a free copy of the book at our opening session on Monday July 1.
This seminar will be led by Br. Cassian Iozzo, O.P., a Collegium summer intern from the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C., who completed his Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Cornell University in 2021.
This seminar is primarily for graduate and undergraduate students and university faculty and staff in the Philadelphia area. However, friends of the Collegium community are also welcome, space permitting.
